Full Day Itinerary
- 08:30 AM – Departure from Downtown La Paz
Pick-up at the designated meeting point in downtown La Paz. We board our private transport and head north, leaving the city behind as we climb into the majestic Cordillera Real. - 09:45 AM – Scenic Stop at the Apacheta Viewpoint
A brief stop at the high mountain pass to enjoy panoramic views of Mount Huayna Potosí and Mount Illimani. It is a perfect spot for initial photos and a short ritual offering (Ch’alla) to the Apus (mountain spirits). - 10:30 AM – Arrival at the Base Camp & Trailhead
We arrive at the mining area and control point near the base of Charquini. Gear check, final safety briefing by our mountain guide, and a slow, steady start to the trek to cope with the altitude. - 11:00 AM – Arrival at the Emerald Lagoon (Laguna Esmeralda)
After a gentle trek, we reach the stunning, vivid-green glacial lagoon. Time to relax, take photos of the reflections, and enjoy a warm coca tea or snack while absorbing the Andean energy. - 11:45 AM – Hike Up to the Charquini Glacier
We continue our ascent over the rocky moraine towards the snow line and the ice melting points.

You can book until 5:30 PM (17:30) two days prior to departure. However, so we recommend booking at least 3 days in advance to secure your spot.

What happens in case of bad weather?
High-mountain weather is unpredictable. If our guides determine that heavy snow or blizzard conditions make the mountain roads unsafe, we will offer you an immediate date change or a 100% full refund.
Altitude & AcclimatizationIs prior acclimatization mandatory?
Yes, highly recommended. The trail reaches 5,390 meters (17,683 feet) above sea level. You must spend at least 1 to 2 days in La Paz or a similar high-altitude city before taking this tour to prevent severe altitude sickness (sorojchi).

How cold does it get up there?
During the day, the sun is very intense, but the mountain wind is freezing. Temperatures at the glacier can range from 5°C to -5°C (41°F to 23°F). Wearing three layers of clothing is essential.
